Laguna Beach, Newport Harbor early leaders in sand league

Laguna Beach, Los Alamitos and Newport Harbor emerged through the first week of the Sunset League six-player girls volleyball sand league.

Laguna Beach and Newport Harbor are 2-0 each in league play. Laguna Beach has wins over Marina and Corona del Mar. Los Alamitos beat Corona del Mar and Marina. Newport Harbor’s wins are over Edison and Huntington Beach (Newport also has a nonleague triumph.

The league plays afternoon matches at various beach sites, including Main Beach in Laguna Beach and at the Newland Stree courts and Huntington State Beach. The sand league schedule was created when indoors volleyball was not permitted.
