  • Create policies, standards, and procedures for content.

1. Establish and define the roles and responsibilities of the content team.

Good content doesn’t exist without people. While you could argue that the most vital person in the content experience is the consumer, you could also contend that content would not exist without the team.

To create a content governance model, decide on the roles and responsibilities of those within the company. Content roles include strategists, writers, editors, and analysts. When defining the obligations of the people in these roles, think about their function. Team members typically have a strategic, operational, or specialist function.

A strategic function, usually seen in roles like a content strategist, is for those who plan long-term strategy. Staff, who are operational, implement the content strategy daily. This work is carried out by writers, editors, photographers, and more. Lastly, members of the specialist function provide expert data to other team members. This could be an SEO specialist providing analytical information to strategists or writers that shape how they fulfill their role.

When establishing the roles and responsibilities for your team, you might find it necessary to create an overlap in function. For example, it could be beneficial to have your content writers specialize in SEO. As long as there is a clear distinction in role and responsibility, there should be no issue in team management.

2. Design content workflows.

How does your content go from Point A to Point B? Point A is an idea while Point B is publication. Consumers cannot see this process, but multiple steps are necessary to reach publication.

Create documents for your company policies, standards, and procedures, and put them in a central location. Hold a meeting to walk through content processes and workflows. And lastly, regularly review and update your content governance models.

Content never ends.

Content lives on a lifecycle. You might think a blog post is complete after it is published and distributed, but its cycle continues with updates and redistribution. High-ranking prosecutors allege DA Gascón demoted them for complaining about policies

Two veteran Los Angeles County prosecutors have filed a lawsuit alleging they were demoted from their positions as bureau directors in retaliation for complaining about District Attorney George Gascón.

Head deputies Maria Ramirez and Victor Rodriguez are seeking undisclosed damages for lost wages, overtime pay and pension benefits.

“Both plaintiffs were subjected to retaliation in the form of removal from their positions as bureau directors and demoted to the positions of head deputy because they disclosed and/or refused to take actions that they reasonably believed were violations of law,” the suit states.

The District Attorney’s Office on Tuesday, March 8, declined to comment on the suit, which was filed Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court.

Ramirez previously served as director of the Bureau of Specialized Prosecutions while Rodriguez was in charge of one bureau and partially responsible for another in eastern Los Angeles County.

Both Ramirez and Rodriguez have been employed by the District Attorney’s Office for more than 30 years, were in positions of “high authority” with regular access to Gascón, and aspired for promotions to assistant district attorney, the suit states.

While leading the Specialized Prosecution Bureau, Ramirez supervised 260 deputy district attorneys assigned to major crimes, sex crimes, community violence reduction, family violence, crimes against peace officers and juvenile divisions. In September 2021, Ramirez was demoted to head deputy of target crimes, where she supervises 11  employees.

Ramirez alleges her demotion came after complaining that Gascón’s directive to substantially change the way juvenile crimes are prosecuted is unlawful. Specifically, the directive mandated Ramirez use alternate prosecution theories that minimized a juvenile’s criminal conduct, no matter how violent, which did not accurately reflect the true offense, says the suit.

“In essence, plaintiff was directed not to file ‘strike’ (enhancement) offenses against juveniles, and this Directive creates a false and misleading description to the court of the crimes that was/were actually committed,” the complaint states.

Fraud alleged

The directive also allegedly prohibited Ramirez from filing sentencing enhancements against juveniles for egregious violent conduct or for offenses that involved more than one victim.

“Plaintiff was forced to randomly select only one victim and charge one crime pertaining to that chosen victim,” the lawsuit says. “Plaintiff raised concerns that at trial, if the randomly chosen victim was not available and the case not therefore provable, the case could be dismissed, and the juvenile would have no accountability. All these filings would constitute fraud on the court and, among other things, violate plaintiff’s ethical and prosecutorial obligations under the law.”

Ramirez also complained Gascón’s juvenile justice directive is illegal because it violates California’s Marsy’s Law, otherwise known as the Victims’ Bill of Rights, by refusing to permit input from victims’ families into the decision not to try juvenile defendants as adults, according to the suit.

“Plaintiff Ramirez personally brought to the attention of George Gascón and others in his administration an unethical and unlawful disposition of a case through a backroom deal that shortened the life sentence of a murderer to a seven-year prison term,” the complaint says.

Prosecutor appalled

Rodriguez supervised about 400 employees as a bureau director before he was demoted in September 2021 to head deputy of the Alhambra branch office.

On March 3, 2021, Gascón invited Rodriguez to a private Zoom meeting to discuss the possible prosecution of police officers involved in a shooting that killed two people, according to the lawsuit.

Also participating in the meeting were Anna Kozma, a confidential assistant to Gascón who at the time was a first-year law student, along with special advisers Alisa Blair and Tiffiny Blacknell, who had previously worked for the Los Angeles County Public Defender’s Office.

After a presentation that showed no inconsistencies in the statements by the officers and witnesses claiming that the suspect reached for a gun, Gascon opened the meeting for suggestions, according to the suit.

Rodriguez was appalled by the discussions during the meeting.

“Ms. Kozma, who is not an attorney, voiced that ‘I am ready to convict the officers,’ ” the suit alleges. “Ms. Blair stated the officers should be prosecuted ‘because too many African-Americans have been killed by police officers.’ Ms. Blacknell opined that the officers should at least be charged with ‘voluntary manslaughter.’ “

Rodriguez reportedly told the group that while he wasn’t opposed to investigating further, at the time there was not probable cause to file charges because there was no specific facts to support the allegations.

After the meeting, Gascón reportedly complained to his then chief of staff that management “followed the law too much.”

“A fitting comment by a district attorney who has never practiced law, and an explanation as to why plaintiff Rodriguez and others were demoted,” the suit states.

In addition to Ramirez and Rodriguez, Shawn Randolph, former head deputy for the Juvenile Division, and Lesley Klein Sonnenberg, former assistant head deputy of the Family Violence Division, filed retaliation lawsuits last year against Gascón for complaining about his policies.

The pair claim Gascón banished them to offices where they have less high-profile assignments and little chance of promotion.

  • Specific: It’s not a broad goal; it’s focused on email marketing.
  • Measurable: It can be measured by a concrete metric (total clicks).
  • Attainable: It’s possible to see this level of change in the business.
  • Realistic: The team is capable of working toward 25% of improvement.
  • Time-bound: This goal has a set duration of one year.

4. If needed, communicate how colleagues can take part in refining your strategy.

With the goal and metrics identified, your next step is to outline what this change would mean for affected colleagues, such as the team members who create and distribute email marketing messages.

The team might conclude that "Marketers can expect an easier email guideline process, a more effective format, and to receive a form to offer input about how to make that happen."

5. Determine actionable steps in your plan that will help you reach your goals.

6. Assign team members to specific tasks that will contribute to the completion of your goals.

Having that set in place, what's next for the marketing ops team is to assign team members specific tasks to help them achieve their goals. CARACAS, Venezuela — The Venezuelan government freed at least one jailed American on Tuesday night as it seeks to improve relations with the Biden administration, which is looking to undercut support for Russia in Latin America.

A nongovernmental group that tracks arbitrary detentions and another person familiar with the matter confirmed to The Associated Press the release of Gustavo Cardenas, one of six oil executives jailed for more than four years.

The moved follows a secret weekend visit to Venezuela by senior Biden administration officials, including the top White House official on Latin America and the State Department’s top hostage negotiator.

The release came hours after Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro signaled an interest in improving relations with the U.S. amid Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and concerns in the United States over rising gas prices.

The State Department declined to comment Tuesday evening. But Cardenas’s release was confirmed by Foro Penal, a nongovernmental group, and by a person familiar with the matter who was not authorized to discuss the issue by name and spoke on condition of anonymity.

Roger Carstens, the special presidential envoy for hostage affairs, came home empty-handed from a previous trip to Caracas in December. But he returned to Venezuela this weekend with other administration officials including Juan Gonzalez, the National Security Council director for the Western Hemisphere, and Ambassador James Story, who heads the U.S. government’s Venezuelan Affairs Unit out of neighboring Colombia.

Cardenas and five other executives of Houston-based Citgo, a subsidiary of Venezuela’s state-owned oil giant, had been in detention in Venezuela since 2017 over a never-executed plan to refinance billions in the oil company’s bonds. The U.S. government has pressed for their release.

Three other Americans are also being held in Venezuela — two former Green Berets, Mark Denman and Airan Berry, who were arrested for their involvement in a confusing plot to overthrow Maduro, and former U.S. Marine Matthew Heath, detained on weapons charges.

CJ Bellamy, Los Altos: The Los Altos point guard had his best week of the season and helped the Conquerors to the CIF State Division II regional final. He led the team in scoring in two of the three state playoff games. Bellamy scored a game-high 20 points with six assists in their semifinal win over Edison, and he led the Conquerors with 14 points in their quarterfinal win over La Mirada. He also scored with 12 points agasint La Jolla Country Day in the opening round of the regional playoffs.

Kamaury Washington, Millikan: Washington led Millikan to the school’s first-ever appearance in the semifinals of the CIF State Division IV SoCal Regional playoffs. The 6-4 senior guard played three games last week, finishing with a 2-1 record. He had a triple-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in a first-round win at home against Bravo, 74-49. He followed that performance with a game-high 21 points and eight rebounds in a second-round win in overtime at home against Sunny Hills, 57-51.  Washington had 20 points and 10 rebounds in Millikan’s third-round loss, 72-59, at home against Valley Torah on Saturday, March 5.

Jordan Lucas, Upland: Lucas, a 6-foot-2 outside hitter, registered 78 kills and 35 digs over six matches to help the Highlanders remain undefeated. He had 16 kills and six digs in Upland’s nonleague victory over Corona. Lucas then tallied 62 kills and 29 digs over 10 sets to help the Highlanders capture the championship of the Portola Tournament in Irvine. He had 17 kills and a .652 attacking percentage in the title match against Tustin. Upland (8-0) is the No. 1 team in the CIF Southern Section Division 3 rankings.

Eddie Villeda, Servite: Villeda, a midfielder, played a big role in the Friars winning their first CIF Southern California Regional championship. He assisted on both goals Saturday in a 2-1 overtime win over San Pasqual in the Division I championship match. He also scored two goals in the Friars’ 5-0 win over Coronado in the first round of the regional playoffs, and scored the first penalty-kicks goal in their semifinals win over Mira Costa. Villeda finished the season with 20 goals and a school-record 23 assists.

Julien Cojulun, Redondo: Cojulun went 5 for 7 in three games last week. He hit two home runs, including a grand slam, with seven RBIs, two doubles and three runs scored.

Lakers’ Russell Westbrook says harassment weighing on his family, vows to push back on name-shaming taunts

SAN ANTONIO — When it comes to insults, jabs and threats, Russell Westbrook has heard it all. Until recently, he thought he could take it, too.

But a recent parent-teacher conference with his wife, Nina Westbrook, opened his eyes: He’s not the only one bearing that weight.

His 4-year-old son Noah loves his last name, his teacher said. He writes his name everywhere. He says it to people he meets: “I’m Westbrook.”

It struck the 14-year NBA veteran that his children hear their name twisted as a critique of their father’s basketball career: “Westbrick.” And that started to change how the nine-time All-Star felt about hearing that particular nickname.

“It’s shaming my name, my legacy for my kids. It’s a name that means, not just to me, but to my wife, to my mom, my dad, the ones that kind of paved the way for me. That’s just one example. That kind of hit myself and my wife in a place where it’s not great. A lot of times, I let it slide. But now it’s time to put a stop to that and put it on notice.”

On Monday night, Westbrook made it known that he’s pushing back on the criticisms of him that overlap with his family, and especially his last name. Speaking after a 117-110 loss in San Antonio, Westbrook talked at length about his anguish over how his family has received collateral damage as frustration mounts over an underwhelming Lakers season.

After a blockbuster trade that brought the SoCal native back home last summer, Westbrook has struggled this season to produce the All-Star-caliber performance suggested by his max-level contract. While the 33-year-old guard said on-court critiques of his shooting performances or mistakes are fair game, he’s been shaken by how his children are caught in the crossfire.

“I don’t even want to bring my kids to the game because I don’t want them to hear people calling their dad nicknames and other names for no reason because he’s playing the game that he loves,” he said. “And it’s gotten so bad where my family don’t even want to go to home games, to any game.”

Averaging 18.1 points, 7.6 rebounds and 7.2 assists while shooting 43.4% from the field and 28.4% from 3-point range, Westbrook has been targeted by pundits and even Lakers fans, who have booed the former league MVP in the midst of erratic performances. But it seems the Westbrook family has reached a breaking point. On Monday night, a viral video captured Westbrook sternly addressing a fan at AT&T Center during the second half: “Don’t disrespect my name!”

In a Twitter thread on Monday afternoon, Nina Westbrook opened a window into the extreme commentary that her family, including her three young children have received. She used the twisting of the Westbrook name as a launching point (she specifically called out Fox Sports commentator Skip Bayless earlier this month), but it quickly took a dark turn.

Asked about his wife’s comments, Russell Westbrook said, “I 100% stand behind my wife and how she’s feeling.”

The couple has been together since they both attended UCLA. Throughout that time, it’s been common for Westbrook to hear insults: During the 2012 NBA Finals, Westbrook was caught off-guard when childhood idol Magic Johnson called him the worst point guard to ever play in the NBA Finals. But he largely learned to weather it – or perhaps more accurately weaponize it as motivation.

Having children has changed that calculus for the Westbrooks however, as has the expanding realm of his influence in Los Angeles. Westbrook’s foundation bears his name, as does his charter school and his car dealerships. His parents. His brother. It’s a big circle.

He’s far from the first NBA superstar to have his name repurposed for poking fun or even something a little more cruel: “Tragic Johnson” leaps to mind, as do troll-ish insults at LeBron James that populate his social media mentions. But it’s clear that Westbrook takes it personally and feels somewhat singled out.

This factor has added strain to what the Westbrooks thought would be a charmed homecoming and a painful backlash to the fulfillment of his childhood dream of playing for the Lakers. These details help color in the unique nature of that conflict.

Ultimately, the future Hall-of-Famer understands that in between the lines, he’s bound to be scrutinized. But he’d like to leave it on the court.

“I’ve been blessed and super thankful for the ones around me and the ones that support me, but it’s really the shaming of my name, the shaming of my character, the shaming of who I am as a person is, to me, not warranted,” he said. “I haven’t done anything to anybody. I haven’t hurt anyone. I haven’t done anything but play basketball a way that people might not like. And this is just a game. Just a game. This is not my entire life. I think that’s the ultimate thing that’s been for me.”

SAN ANTONIO — Looking at the hole in their lineup, the Lakers saw 29.4 points, 8.1 rebounds and 6.2 assists they had to replace.

Coach Frank Vogel reasoned no one could take on that production by themselves, so the Lakers did it by committee, with five players scoring at least 13 points, with five players with five or more rebounds, and whoever could make a play contributing assists.

But in the end, the Lakers still needed a closer. And that’s where LeBron James was missed the most.

A competitive effort in San Antonio fell apart late as the Lakers lost to the Spurs, 117-110, the team’s eighth loss in its last 10 games. As James sat on the sideline with knee pain wearing a dark hoodie and sunglasses, the Lakers tightened up for just 18 points in the fourth as scrappy San Antonio – which could conceivably catch them in the Western Conference standings – pulled away.

It was history for Spurs coach Gregg Popovich, who with his 1,335th win tied Don Nelson for the NBA’s all-time regular-season record. But it was just another tough-to-stomach loss for the Lakers, who were tied with nine minutes remaining, in a season that’s becoming uncomfortably full of them.

“One step forward, one step back, one step forward, one step back, five steps back, a couple steps forward,” Malik Monk said with a sigh. “We keep doing the same thing.”

While the Lakers, who have not won consecutive games in two months, formed an impressive effort among their pack, no one truly rose above. While San Antonio’s lone All-Star Dejounte Murray authored a 26-point, 10-rebound, eight-assist night with three steals, the Lakers’ leading scorer was Talen Horton-Tucker with 18 points.

Russell Westbrook, the last healthy member of the team’s envisioned “Big Three,” had an impressive start, but he didn’t stick the landing. He scored 14 of his 17 points and had five of his six assists in the first three quarters despite first-half foul trouble; in the fourth, he was 1 for 6. One of Vogel’s biggest critiques – that the Lakers were overly aggressive attacking the rim without looking to pass – seemed targeted at least in part at Westbrook, who drove in on one ill-fated possession with four Spurs defenders in the paint.

But it was also optimistic to expect the Lakers to win without James, given that just two nights before he was dropping 56 points on the Golden State Warriors, closing out the fourth with three of his six 3-pointers. Without him, those late fireworks just weren’t there.

“A lot of scrambling,” Westbrook said of how the Lakers adjusted to playing without James on late notice. “Some stuff hurt us in the fourth, but I thought we did a good job of doing the best that we could boxing out and different things of that nature.”

The Lakers also struggled to guard the Spurs one-on-one, which reached a tipping point late in the game. Seven-foot Jakob Poeltl scored 11 of his 18 points in the fourth quarter largely against a smaller lineup with Carmelo Anthony playing center.

While Anthony had moments of defensive intensity and muscled in for a pair of fourth-quarter blocked shots, the Lakers had no clear answer for Poeltl’s size in the post. Even when fouled, he was 6 for 8 at the free-throw line.

Despite a size disadvantage for most of the night (Dwight Howard started by played less than 18 minutes), the Lakers were most effective driving into the paint: They scored 60 to San Antonio’s 64 paint points, evening the edge with a fast-paced, aggressive attack.

The game began without much structure: Two short-handed teams running up and down the court. James’ sense of control was missing in the back-and-forth that more resembled AAU than NBA.

But the Spurs were first to seize control, running off nine unanswered points to close out the first quarter, and early into the second, the Lakers were down by double figures – a position they’ve been in for eight straight games.

The Lakers have been good at making a good effort after getting down, but the pattern is getting old. And this time, James wasn’t available to suit up and help them finish at the end.

“You miss somebody like Bron who draws so much attention out there on the defensive end, and he opens the court up for everybody else,” Anthony said. “That’s what we missed.”
