Each week, publications from the Southern California News Group’s 11 properties (Orange County Register, L.A. Daily News, Press-Enterprise, San Gabriel Valley Tribune, Long Beach Press-Telegram, The Daily Breeze, San Bernardino Sun, Daily Bulletin, Redlands Daily Facts, Whittier Daily News and Pasadena-Star News) select the Athletes of the Week for their respective region.
Each athlete is then entered into the overall Southern California Athlete of the Week vote.
Click on the newspaper links below the athlete’s name to read about their performance from last week, and then vote for who you think deserves the top honor.
Readers are allowed to vote multiple times. Voting ends at midnight, but final totals aren’t always immediately reflected due to processing.

CJ Bellamy, Los Altos: The Los Altos point guard had his best week of the season and helped the Conquerors to the CIF State Division II regional final. He led the team in scoring in two of the three state playoff games. Bellamy scored a game-high 20 points with six assists in their semifinal win over Edison, and he led the Conquerors with 14 points in their quarterfinal win over La Mirada. He also scored with 12 points agasint La Jolla Country Day in the opening round of the regional playoffs.
Kamaury Washington, Millikan: Washington led Millikan to the school’s first-ever appearance in the semifinals of the CIF State Division IV SoCal Regional playoffs. The 6-4 senior guard played three games last week, finishing with a 2-1 record. He had a triple-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in a first-round win at home against Bravo, 74-49. He followed that performance with a game-high 21 points and eight rebounds in a second-round win in overtime at home against Sunny Hills, 57-51. Washington had 20 points and 10 rebounds in Millikan’s third-round loss, 72-59, at home against Valley Torah on Saturday, March 5.
Jordan Lucas, Upland: Lucas, a 6-foot-2 outside hitter, registered 78 kills and 35 digs over six matches to help the Highlanders remain undefeated. He had 16 kills and six digs in Upland’s nonleague victory over Corona. Lucas then tallied 62 kills and 29 digs over 10 sets to help the Highlanders capture the championship of the Portola Tournament in Irvine. He had 17 kills and a .652 attacking percentage in the title match against Tustin. Upland (8-0) is the No. 1 team in the CIF Southern Section Division 3 rankings.
Eddie Villeda, Servite: Villeda, a midfielder, played a big role in the Friars winning their first CIF Southern California Regional championship. He assisted on both goals Saturday in a 2-1 overtime win over San Pasqual in the Division I championship match. He also scored two goals in the Friars’ 5-0 win over Coronado in the first round of the regional playoffs, and scored the first penalty-kicks goal in their semifinals win over Mira Costa. Villeda finished the season with 20 goals and a school-record 23 assists.
Julien Cojulun, Redondo: Cojulun went 5 for 7 in three games last week. He hit two home runs, including a grand slam, with seven RBIs, two doubles and three runs scored.
